Rules
Here are the basic rules for playing Liar's Dice:
-
Players: 2 or more players.
-
Equipment: Each player needs five six-sided dice and a dice cup.
-
Objective: Be the last player with dice remaining.
-
Setup:
- Each player starts with five dice in their cup.
- Determine the first player randomly.
-
Gameplay:
- All players shake their cups and turn them upside down on the table, concealing their dice.
- Players can look at their own dice secretly.
- The first player makes a bid about how many dice of a certain value are on the table.
- The next player can either:
- Make a higher bid
- Challenge the previous bid
-
Bidding:
- A bid consists of a quantity and a value (e.g., "four 3s").
- To be higher, a bid must either:
- Increase the quantity (e.g., "five 3s" is higher than "four 3s")
- Keep the same quantity but increase the value (e.g., "four 4s" is higher than "four 3s")
- Ones (1s) are wild and can represent any number.
-
Challenging:
- When a challenge is made, all players lift their cups.
- If the bid is correct or underestimated, the challenger loses a die.
- If the bid is overestimated, the bidder loses a die.
-
Losing Dice:
- Players who lose a die remove it from play.
- When a player loses all their dice, they're out of the game.
-
New Rounds:
- After each challenge, all remaining players re-roll their dice and a new round begins.
- The player who lost the previous round starts the bidding.
-
Winning:
- The last player with dice remaining wins the game.
-
Variations:
- Some versions use four dice per player instead of five.
- In some variants, 1s are not wild but are the highest value.
