Rules

Here are the basic rules for playing Mia (Mäxchen/Meiern):

  1. Players: 2 or more players.

  2. Equipment: Two six-sided dice and a dice cup.

  3. Objective: Be the last player to not lose all your lives.

  4. Setup:

    • Decide on the number of lives each player starts with (typically 3-5).
    • Determine the first player randomly.
  5. Gameplay:

    • The first player rolls the dice in secret using the cup.
    • They announce a value, which can be:
      • The actual roll
      • A higher value than what they rolled
      • The same value as the previous player's announcement
    • The dice are passed to the next player, who can:
      • Accept the announced value and roll
      • Challenge the previous player's announcement
  6. Scoring:

    • Dice values are read as two-digit numbers, with the higher number first.
    • 21 is the highest roll (called "Mia" or "Mäxchen").
    • Next highest are doubles: 66, 55, 44, 33, 22, 11.
    • Then come other numbers: 65, 64, 63, etc., down to 31.
  7. Challenging:

    • If a player challenges and the previous player lied, the previous player loses a life.
    • If the challenge is incorrect, the challenging player loses a life.
  8. Losing:

    • A player who loses all their lives is out of the game.
    • The last player with lives remaining wins.
  9. Variations:

    • You can drink when you lose a life
